As a part of acting training and community development, Theatre Encounter offers different workshops exploring in-depth acting techniques and theatre used as social inquiry.
Motivity

Based in Grotowski and Stanislavski's physical actions, Odin Teatret's physical work, Indian Cho principles, authentic & improvisational movement, impulse work, and image-theatre techniques, Motivity approaches performance as a journey into the essence of physical action and how it informs the performer in making authentic choices.

This intensive training leads actors, dancers and physical performers to investigate their 'physical vocabulary’, rooted in impulse, to understand the body / mind relationship in performance.  An alternative approach to play creation and the rehearsal process is used not based on text.

This workshop is for actors and dancers to highlight an exploration in movement. A lot of experience in theatre or dance is not necessary, but a basic background in either, plus / or an interest to move improvisationally will be helpful.

Peripeteia:  Based in Augusto Boal's Forum Theatre, this is an exploration into how the body experience is a metaphor for the society we live in.  In this workshop we will use theatre techniques to investigate discrimination, racism, bullying, poverty, sexism etc. Peripeteia means 'turning point'. Workshops can be as short as a few hours to a full 6 day intensive.  For more information, contact us
Professional Physical Theatre CLASSES

Theatre Encounter is now hosting consistent classes on physical movement training, every other week.

The work is based on Motivity (see below), and will be a deepening into the work.  Although no experience is necessary, a physical aptitude to move will be very helpful, as the work is quite thorough.

Please contact us for dates, times and the location.

For students and teachers
Theatre Encounter believes in community development by fostering the next generation of artists. We offer workshops and outreach development programs related to our performances. Workshops include physically related acting and literature work based on classic texts. We also offer workshops on acting as metaphors to penetrate social concerns of student life.

Theatre Encounter’s accredited MFA staff offer these workshops. They can be tailored for students (interactive sessions), and also for teachers on how to use drama more effectively in the classroom.  We are willing to work with communities as well on youth programs.  For more information contact us

DATES:  Jan 16, 30, Feb 13, 27  (2012).  6-8pm.

The charge is $10 for one session and $30 for all 4 sessions.  Please note that it will be a professional atmosphere focused on the work.  The intention of the classes is to build from week to week.  This is to give continuity and build on previous classes, on the underlying principles of movement.
